Dragwyb Click to Chat provides request limits and a usage meter for the AI Assistant, but the inspected version does not calculate the provider’s actual billed amount in currency. It tracks site request counts and estimated token usage. To understand real API charges, combine the plugin’s usage controls with the billing and usage information supplied by the active AI provider.
Review plugin-side usage
- In WordPress admin, open Click to Chat → AI Assistant.
- Choose Chatbot Settings → Advance.
- Open AI Usage & Cost Controls and review the Monthly Request Usage meter, today’s request count, and estimated tokens for the current month.
- Confirm that the visitor daily message limit and monthly request budget ceiling fit your expected traffic.
The meter reports plugin-side counts. Estimated tokens are not a provider invoice and may not match the provider’s exact usage accounting, model pricing, or billed total.
Check the provider’s actual billing
Open the usage or billing dashboard for the provider you selected in AI Engine & Prompt → AI Providers & API Keys. Review usage for the relevant project, account, and time period. If your site can use more than one provider, check each provider separately so you do not overlook requests billed to another account.
- OpenAI API settings — manage keys and access the provider’s current usage/billing areas from your account.
- Google AI Studio API keys — open the Google AI account used for Gemini and follow its current billing and usage navigation.
These provider links are entry points for account access; billing page layout, availability, and permissions are controlled by the provider and may change.
Reduce unnecessary request volume
- Choose an appropriate model: select an available model that meets your answer-quality and latency needs. Model pricing and availability are determined by the provider.
- Keep prompts focused: avoid adding irrelevant instructions or excessive context. If the Knowledge Base is enabled, review the retrieved sources when answers include unnecessary material.
- Set request limits: configure the per-visitor rate limit, daily message limit, and monthly request ceiling in Chatbot Settings.
- Use budget threshold alerts: enable email alerts for 80% and 100% of the monthly request ceiling and confirm the recipient address.
- Review error logs: investigate repeated failures or repeated retries rather than assuming that failed requests are always free at the provider level.
Understand what the plugin limits do
The Monthly Request Budget Ceiling is a request-count limit, not a currency amount. In version 1.2.0, the default is 5,000 site requests per month and a value of 0 means unlimited monthly requests. The Daily Message Limit per Visitor defaults to 50 messages, and the separate per-visitor rate limit defaults to 20 requests per minute. These are configurable settings, not guarantees of a particular maximum bill.
Disabling the plugin’s usage controls bypasses its daily and monthly checks; it does not disable the provider’s billing. Likewise, an email alert not arriving does not prove that no requests were made. Check the provider dashboard for the authoritative billed usage.
Review costs on a schedule
- Compare the plugin’s request and estimated-token counts with provider usage for the same period.
- Investigate large differences, unusual traffic spikes, or unexpected provider usage before increasing limits.
- Adjust the model, prompt, or request limits only after reviewing the effect on visitor experience.
- Repeat the review after changing providers, models, or chatbot visibility.
